I was sponsored throughout my time at University on Cameron’s Sponsorship Programme. I received financial support to help with my studies as well as an Industrial Placement in my third year. Cameron was happy enough with during my placement that I was offered a role when I finished and returned back in July 2009 and it feels like I never left!
I learned a great deal from my industrial placement including designing for manufacture, correct drawing standards and also gained an appreciation of how a large business such as Cameron operates. Going back to my final year of studies it was a great relief that I had financial support from Cameron which enabled me to concentrate on my studies rather than working a par time job and resulted in me gaining a First Class Honours.
One of the best parts of the job, I can honestly say that the people at Cameron's are the best I have ever worked with. There's a good banter between employees both in the office and on the shop floor. Everyone is willing to help and I’ve been made to feel really welcome in my time here.
I am currently a design engineer on the Graduate Engineering Rotation Program. I am working several 3 month placements in different product groups ranging from engineering to production gaining an overall appreciation of the different types of engineering activities performed in Leeds. Day to day roles include, creating 3D models and 2D detail drawings, engineering procedures, design files and I have recently being involved with a new project initiative (MARS Friendly) to take as-built measurements of Tree Choke relative to re-entry mandrel for new projects. Thanks to the program I have gained contacts in most areas of the business including Engineering, Quality, Purchasing, Project Management and Production.
There is plenty of opportunity for developing my learning. I regularly attend the "Lunch & Learn" sessions to improve my product knowledge and have also been on several internal and external courses to develop and improve day to day skills. Most notably are the Inventor Trionics 3D modelling Course, Cameron Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance Training and Drawing Standards training.
